2022 Jeep Compass vs 2022 Jeep Renegade

December 1st, 2022 by

The Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade might be two of the smaller SUVs in the Jeep lineup, but they’re big on capability. The Compass fits in the compact SUV market and boasts a sporty yet rugged exterior look, while the Renegade is a subcompact SUV with a fun exterior design that can tackle almost any terrain. Let’s take a look at the features and equipment in the 2022 Jeep Compass compared with the 2022 Jeep Renegade.

Exterior Features

The Compass has a distinct Jeep-like appearance. It looks like a smaller version of the Grand Cherokee with its signature seven-slot grille. The entry-level Sport trim has 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and roof rails, with fog lights and automatic headlights added to the Latitude trim and above. The Limited trim has a black painted roof, and the Trailhawk trim is the off-road capable model that adds off-road tires, a raised suspension, skid plates, tow hooks, and 17-inch wheels.

The Renegade has a unique exterior design with square taillights, a seven-slat grille, and the option for a dual-pane sunroof. The entry-level Sport trim has 16-inch steel wheels, while the Latitude trim has 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, roof rails, and automatic headlights. The Limited trim offers LED headlights and 19-inch wheels. There’s also a Trailhawk version of the Renegade with all-terrain tires, front and rear tow hooks, skid plates, and a full-size spare.

Power and Performance

Power for the Compass comes from its 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine that offers 177 horsepower. The Sport and Latitude trims come with front-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option, and the four-wheel drive system comes standard with the Latitude Lux, Limited, and Trailhawk trims. If you have a front-wheel-drive Compass, it will use a six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel-drive versions use a nine-speed automatic.

The Renegade is a smaller vehicle and has a smaller engine to propel it. The 1.3-liter four-cylinder gas engine generates 177 horsepower and achieves 210 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty for the compact SUV. Just like the Compass, the entry-level Sport trim comes with front-wheel drive and offers all-wheel drive as an option, while the rest of the lineup comes standard with four-wheel drive.

Technology

The 2022 Jeep Compass and 2022 Renegade have similar technology features. The Sport trim for both models has an 8.4-inch touch screen for the infotainment system and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation comes standard, along with satellite radio and a six-speaker stereo system. The most significant difference in the technology features between these two models is that the Compass has a wireless version of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the Renegade has a wired version.

If you choose the larger Compass, you can also get a 10.1-inch touch screen if you have the Latitude Lux trim or above. The Compass also offers the Convenience Group with a 115-volt power outlet.

Interior Space

These two Jeep models have similar features at the base level in the cabin, but you’ll get more space in the Jeep Compass. Both seat five comfortably, and both have a spacious cargo area. The Renegade has 18.5 cu ft of storage space behind the rear seats, and this can open up to 50.8 cu ft with the rear seats folded down, which is impressive in the subcompact SUV market. The Compass offers 27.2 cu ft of space behind the rear seats, expanding to 59.8 cu ft with the rear seats folded down.

If you need more room for your gear, the Compass has the extra space that you need, but the Renegade comes with a removable cargo floor panel to make the most of the space in the back.

Cabin Features

Neither the Compass nor the Renegade skimps on cabin features. You’ll find cloth upholstery in the entry-level trims and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. Moving up to a higher-level Jeep Compass adds extra features, such as faux leather upholstery, a faux leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. You can also get a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel in the Compass, and genuine leather upholstery in the Latitude Lux trims and above. Heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and the option for heated and ventilated front-row seats add to the ride’s enjoyment.

The Renegade also comes well equipped with features. A fold-flat passenger seat expands its storage capacity. If you opt for the Latitude trim, you’ll get upgraded cloth upholstery and the option for a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, along with heated front seats. The Renegade Limited makes these options standard and adds leather upholstery.

Safety Features

Both the 2022 Compass and 2022 Renegade come standard with several advanced driver aids. Both have a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning with mitigation, and trailer sway damping.

The Compass Limited adds rear parking sensors, and you can get these as an option with the Renegade Limited. The Compass also offers the Driver Assist Group I for the Latitude trim and the Driver Assist Group II for the Latitude Lux trim. It adds adaptive cruise control, an automated parking system, and a 360-degree surround-view camera to the list of safety features.

Some of these extras are also available for the Renegade as part of the Luxury Group Package for the Limited trim. This group has adaptive cruise control and an automated parking system, and it adds rear automatic braking, which will apply the brakes when it senses an imminent collision with an object behind your SUV.

The Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade differ in size and style, but they offer many of the same features. The Compass has a more extensive trim lineup with several added luxury and upscale features and offers more cargo space than the Renegade.
